Learning through Giving

Brother and Sister Elks, Ladies of the Royal Purple I wish to thank the members of the Alberta Elks Association for putting their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to serve as their President. My theme for this year is “Learning through Giving”. As a volunteer we learn to understand the problems that stem from wellness, poverty and addiction and for those that don’t have choices. Every day, we’re demonstrating what we can do to change the very course of a young person’s life or someone from our community. As a community member we are humble in the incredible relationships we have formed within our communities, the work we do to reach out to others less fortunate. We do these in several ways as we can contribute through our Lodges, the Provincial Foundation and the Elks and RP Fund for Children or individually. We work with many organizations such as ISTAR, Chamber of Commerce, hospitals, Town Councils, schools, and counties all for the betterment of our communities. How many countless hours have we sold tickets, worked on projects, used our own vehicles, gas, money and time all to help others and by doing this we are helping ourselves by “Learning through Giving”. |
To our Exalted Rulers, District Deputies and the Provincial Executive let’s show strong leadership with a vision to be the best Executive Team your Lodge and our Association has ever seen. Our hard work will generate enthusiasm attracting new members and rejuvenating existing members creating results for your Lodges, Districts and the Association.
In our Lodges it has been recommended to implement some or all of the 4 building blocks recommended by the Forward Planning Committee. They are ritual, regalia, leadership and projects. The District Deputies will be discussing and expanding on these 4 building blocks when visiting your Lodge this fall and winter. Please make an earnest effort to use these recommendations as they will make a difference in our “Learning through Giving” for all members.
When the spirit of the Elks is strong, focused and vibrant, wonderful things happen as we see and hear from our own Lodge activities and from others in our Districts, Association and Nationally. Let’s continue this trend of “Learning through Giving” by increasing our membership and providing more men and women the opportunity to learn and develop through Elkdom.
I look forward to meeting many of you in my travels to visit Lodges throughout the Province and those located in BC and the Yukon as well as attending anniversaries and celebrations.
Let’s continue our great work in the Order by “Learning through Giving”.
